Since the late 50's, Hedebo Strand Camping has been situated at the edge of the beach by idyllic Sæby. Since 1968, Inger, Bendt and his son Eric Christensen have run the place.
After 10 years in the United States, where Inger and Bendt, owned and ran a gardencenter, they decided to return to their hometown in North Jutland. Here they took over Hedebo Strand Camping in 1968, which at that time had 125 sites. Quietly, the space was expanded with another 500 units, and new, modern service buildings were built. Amongst others the reception with a communal sittingroom on the first floor overlooking the sea.
In 1985, Eric as 23-year-old took over the main responsibility of running the campsite after his parents, who to this day still work here in their 80s.
I grew up with the campsite and the many long stayers here. I know them and they my parents and me, as we were in family, Eric Christensen.
Many employees are needed to maintain the 625 sites for caravans, campervans and tents here at Hedebo, where we have more than 90,000 overnights each year. It requires a large and faithful organization.
Since 2005, our two Polish employees, Frannek and Edward have cleaned our four service buildings with toilet, bath and kitchens twice a day. They also crop plants, cut many thousands square meters of grass, paint and renovate our buildings and 16 cabins. Together with our handyman, Bent, they also help our long stayers and tourists with different practical tasks. When busy in high season, Frannek and Edward's wives, Dorotha and Malgorzata, also come and help. While their children spend summer holidays here and especially in our swimming pool and on the beach.
The reception, which is open 14 hours a day in high season, is run by Eric, Bettina and Solvej. The three also organize the cottages each year and arrange a number of events for our guests. Big as small.
Hedebo Café is leased by Lone Munch, and Hedebo Supermarket has been runned by Lone and Keld Jensen for almost 30 years. We have long opening hours and a lot of guests. Also, those who just drop by to get an ice cream or play a round on our beautiful 12-holes miniature golf course. Our guests can also choose to play tennis, shuffleboard or enjoy one of the 4 playgrounds.
The poolarea, overlooked by Bendt and Inger Christensen, is reserved for the paying guests of the campsite. In the heated poolarea the big kids may enjoy the 20 m high surfhill while the smaller children have fun in the toddlers area. The beach right outside the door is available to both guests and the area's residents who bathe and enjoy the sun when the weather is fine. Here you will also be fishing, surfing, trekking and biking. Walk the promenade to cozy Sæby or take a hike in the nearby Underground hills with a rich wildlife and magnificent views. In the evening, maybe the adults grill while the kids play football on the lawn at the beach.
We are also proud to exhibit Denmark's largest collection of classical motorcycles, which Bendt has gathered over a long life. The exhibition is open by appointment, free to visit and the reason that many enthusiasts and collectors of old motorcycles - like Denmark's Veteran Motocycle Club - will visit us.
We are an important part of the area near Sæby and Frederikshavn, and we are very proud of this, Eric Christensen.
