Wow, what a collection:

117 classical motorcycles go to Skagen

The collection of our Bendt with 117 motorcycles and two special vintage cars can be seen from June 1st at the museum, Maskinrummet, in Skagen. Of course, we will not let go of Bendt's passion completely and will continue our almost 50-year-old tradition of holding motorcycle and car exhibitions on Tuesday and Wednesday in week 29.

For several decades, motorcycle enthusiasts have made a trip to the campsite in Sæby to see the fantastic collection of classic motorcycles that Bendt Christensen has collected since the family took over Hedebo in 1968.

Now Henning Kjeldsen, who is behind Maskinrummet in Skagen, has bought the collection. After Bendt Christensen suddenly died at the age of 89 earlier this year:

- My father and I agreed that others should enjoy the motorcycles once he passed away, because it was his hobby and not mine. Now they have been sold together, they will stay here in North Jutland and will get plenty of space to also tell his story. It would have pleased my father very much, says 2nd generation and current owner of the campsite, Eric Christensen.

117+2 machines
The museum takes over 117 primarily German, British and Italian motorcycles (e.g. Ducatti known as the Ferrari of motorcycles). Just as two vintage cars are included in the impressive collection. An Alfa Romeo from 1959 and a Renault Alpine A106 from 1956, which has taken part in several races, e.g. Mille Miglia in Italy.

- The first thing I thought when I saw Bendt's exhibition was “wow”. Here was a man as geeky as me, who has really understood how to live out his passion. I have to take my hat off for that, says Henning Kjeldsen.

From June 1st, you can both see and read about Bendt Christensen's large collection of motorcycles, together with the many ship engines, steam engines, cars, etc. that Henning Kjeldsen himself has collected over the years and now exhibits at the museum Machine Room.

- Our museum had a really good year with many visitors in 2022, because we get more and more exciting things to show. Bendt's many classical motorcycles and the two very rare cars can certainly help lift our museum and put it on the Danish map, says Henning Kjeldsen.

The tradition continues in Sæby
At the campsite in Sæby, it is with some sadness that Eric Christensen must now pass on his father's passion. He therefore has no plans to give up motorcycles completely, and the old workshop, where the many machines stood (too) close together, will continue to contain the story behind his father's collection.

Just like the tradition that the family's patriarch and motor geek started almost 50 years ago, of arranging a motorcycle and car exhibition of course continues. In 2022, the two exhibitions had app. 1,500 motorcycles and cars and attracted just over 10,000 visitors from all over the country.
